What We Know So Far About Disney’s ‘Sister Act 3’
As we reported previously here at MickeyBlog, Disney is currently working on a third instalment of Sister Act which they will debut on the all-new Disney+ streaming network which launched back in November. It’s been a while since we save Whoopi Goldberg as a street-smart Nevada singer who joins the Witness Protection Program as a nun. The original Sister Act debuted in 1992 with Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit premiering a year later in 1993.
Both features were box office gold with the first film earning a whopping $231 million at the box office. The sequel is also responsible for launching the career of Lauryn Hill who would go on to become the lead singer of the Fugees and prominently features in the film.
In December of 2018, Disney announced that Sister Act 3 was in development with buzz increasing after launch. We do know that Regina Hicks and Karin Gist were hired by Disney to write the script. Regina Hicks is best known as supervising producer for Sister, Sister and Gist most recently produced episodes of Mixed-ish. The duo previously collaborated on movies Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.
Disney has yet to announce an official launch date for the project and as far as we know Sister Act 3 is currently still in development. This is leading many insiders to speculate that we may not see the film as part of the Disney+ line-up until 2021.
Many online sources are reporting that the movie will feature and all-new cast. Whoopi Goldberg also confirmed that she is unlikely to reprise her role. However, she has suggested in the past that she may direct the film.
