Spider-Man’s Move From Marvel: Informed Speculation
I am a huge Marvel movie buff — that’s not new — but far be it from me to feign any comprehensive understanding of the whole Disney/Marvel vs. Sony thing. Honestly, in the lead up to the breakup, I was just excited to see there be a chance my favorite superhero trio back in business – “Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends.”
This was the best part of my grade school Saturday mornings:

But hey, I digress.
Thankfully, I don’t have to be an expert because the folks at New Rockstars — namely Erik Voss — is an expert; or at least an expert in informed speculation. This time around he aimed his research at a “Spider-Man Update! Sony Spiderverse Plan Explained!”
They teased:
Spider-Man Leaving the MCU opening the door to a Sony Spiderverse with a Venom crossover and the Sinister Six? Is a secret deal between Marvel and Sony still in the works… or is it too good to be true? Erik Voss breaks down the latest updates about the Spider-Man drama, what Kevin Feige and Tom Holland have said about the breakup, and updates about the writers for Spider-Man 3. Could Spider-Man save the Venom movies? How could Kraven the Hunter be one of the most fearful villains Spider-Man ever faces? How could Peter Parker live on separate from the MCU? And despite Marvel’s successes with the character, what has this version of Spider-Man lacked that Sony could improve upon?
Before the final outcome of the feud was announced backstage at D23, a panel of movie buffs worked through the speculation as it seemed inevitable that Spidey was leaving the MCU.
They explained:
How will the news that Marvel and Sony will no longer be sharing Spiderman change the futures of both the MCU and the Spiderverse of films? What does this mean for Venom 2, more Tom Holland Spiderman movies, and the entire MCU Phase 4? We also theorize about the announced Matrix sequel. Watch as Filup Molina, Erik Voss, Matt Beebe and James Allen McCune all go rogue!
But tell us: Will you go see a Sony-produced Spider-Man movie? Let us know in the comments.
