Disney Too Reliant on Star Wars… Iger Says No
The Walt Disney Company consistently finds itself in the financial news and thanks to the recent opening of the 14-acre opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, most of those articles remain positive.
However, the number of times the words “Star Wars” dot the Disney balance sheet seem to give some investors pause (?).
In contrast, CEO Bob Iger believes the company is diverse and has many products to keep the “House of Mouse” on a stable foundation.
CNBC’s Sarah Whitten recounted Iger’s conversation with Julia Boorstin on “Closing Bell,” quoting the big boardroom boss as saying, “There’s so much going on in the company that people are interested in.”
Iger noted the upcoming Toy Story 4 and reboot of The Lion King as just two examples.
“If you look at the profile of the company and collection of assets, we’re still basking in the glory of ‘Avenger: Endgame,’ a Marvel property,” he told CNBC. “Yes, we have a lot riding on ‘Star Wars,’ but we have a diversity of characters and franchises and stories.
“I don’t think we are reliant too heavily on any one of them. We just like them all.”

Iger says Disney parks haven't seen a slowdown from the U.S.-China trade war. "We have plans to continue to expand Shanghai Disney, and we believe we'll have ample opportunity to do that," he says. pic.twitter.com/YJHUyn8new
