Disney Cruise Line’s New Private Island Deal Finalized with the Bahamian Government
It’s official! After months of speculation, Disney Cruise Line will be adding a second private island for Guests to sail to in addition to the award-winning Castaway Cay. The island will be located in Southern Eluethra area of the small island nation.

Disney has been in talks for a while now with the Bahamian Government to purchase Lighthouse Point from a private seller. Prince Minister the Most Honorable Doctor Hubert Minnis announced the deal was finalized at a Town Hall Meeting this past Saturday, March 9.
Part of the deal includes that Disney Cruise Line will commit to an overall ratio of Bahamian employees to non-Bahamian employees. 120 Bahamian citizens employed during the construction period of the project. Disney will also offer priority to Bahamian owners and operators for Disney Cruise Line port adventures while in port. Access to the property for non-commercial purposes will be offered with a focus on children and families. Disney will assist with local schools, enhance tourist heritage sites, and also aim to improve medical facilities in the Eluethras.
190 acres of the land purchase will be set aside by Disney Cruise Line to the Bahamian Government to a conservation area along with a national park.
Finally, Disney Cruise Line has agreed to increase its overall presence in the Bahamas with 30 to 40% more additional stops in Nassau and Freeport over its 2018 calls to Bahamian ports. Remember, Disney has three new ships lined up to hit the high seas beginning in 2021.
With the addition of Lighthouse Point, this will mean that Disney Cruises will have the option of four Bahamian ports to sail to including Nassau, Freeport, and Castaway Cay. It is unknown at this time when construction will be complete on Lighthouse Point and when ships will begin to sail there.
