Ultimate Guide to Disney’s Social Media
When I got my drivers’ license, the best advice I received before I took to the open roads was the follwing. You have to watch out for every other driver and expect them to be distracted from the road. That advice came flooding back tenfold just last week when I was walking down the street and someone was veering into my lane (read: my side of the sidewalk) with their head completely engulfed in their phone.
I noticed it too late, and the oncomer literally SLAMMED his entire 6ft plus frame into my barely 5ft tall body, and were it not for a scaffolding pole nearby to hold onto, I would have been sent sailing out into the very crowded street. When I caught a glimpse of his screen, my prediction was correct- he was scrolling through social media. Maybe even Disney social media.
What is the point to this story? The point is, we’re all so connected in 2018 that any time away from our phones– even to run a simple 5-minute errand- is unheard of. With even more apps and social media platforms popping up now, it’s easy to feel close to the things that matter most, even if it is through a screen. Disney is no stranger to trends, and the company’s longstanding tradition of setting trends is perfectly personified by Disney’s social media presence.
As much as I like to unplug and spend face-to-face time with my family and friends, I’d be lying if I said I weren’t completely and totally hooked on Disney’s social presence! If you’re any kind of Disney fan, the ‘Walt Disney World homesickness’ is a very real plight, but sometimes a little Disney in your Twitter feed is all you need! So, which accounts post the content you crave? Read on to find out!
Official Parks Accounts
@WaltDisneyWorld
Follow the official account of Walt Disney World Resort for periodic posts and general updates. This account doesn’t post super frequently, so if you’re the type who likes to be gently reminded of the big announcements that happen around the Resort and throughout the Walt Disney Company, this account is for you. Posts tend to come about once a week.
@DisneyParks
If your phone is within grabbing distance right now, this account is probably more your speed. The Disney Parks official account covers ALL of the Disney parks both domestic and otherwise, and their daily (sometimes twice or three times) posts range from behind-the-scenes glimpses at their latest filming project to adorable ‘Disney Doodles”.
@DisneyPixar
Toy Story Land is the accounts’ current banner photo, and while they certainly post plenty about their films, they are equally as enthusiastic about their presence in the Parks! The account has a distinctly light and heartwarming voice that draws you in with the big brand name, and keeps you around for cute posts like how to make Toy Story Alien S’mores. Adorable.
@DisneyD23
Even if you aren’t a member of the official Disney fan club (but why wouldn’t you be?), this account is great for staying on top of the latest film releases, fan events, and general happenings around the Walt Disney Company. If you don’t follow this account for 365 days out of the year, you should absolutely touch that ‘follow’ button on your screen during D23 Expo; they are the only ones tweeting/Instagramming the big announcements as they happen!
@TWDArchives
If you couldn’t already tell I’m a big Disney nerd, one look at this account’s page will out that not-so-secretive secret! The posts take you back…way back, and the account definitely lives up to its name. Of all the accounts, this one will pull you down into a social media black hole- in the best way! There isn’t another Disney account out there that has ever kept me up until 1am questioning when and how the 10 minutes of scrolling turned into 2 hours…
@WDWToday
The chances of being tweeted or messaged back by an official Disney account are very slim, which is why I have to give my full follow-worthy support to the @WDWToday twitter team! Not only does the account post the most up-to-date information (think park hours and newest food items), but if you ever tweet them directly, I would bet they will give you a like, or maybe even a comment back!
Oh, and if you ever encounter a Cast Member who made your day, tweet them and let them know! That Cast Member will be given a special social media shout out- just use the hashtag #castcompliment!
