The Ultimate Guide to Portable Chargers at Disney
You woke up to squeals and shrieks coming from your daughter that you didn’t know she was capable of producing. Jumping on the bed because she can’t wait to start off her first-ever magical day in the Parks, the rest of the family hastens to get ready and hop on the monorail to Magic Kingdom. Your daughter looks too cute in her outfit and you can’t help but snap a few photos and send them to grandma before you head out.
You begin your morning at rope drop of Magic Kingdom and were one of the first in the Park, and with the castle welcome show set to begin in just 5 minutes, you press the record button on your phone’s camera to be sure you won’t miss a single sight or sound when the show begins.
Fast-forward to the evening. You’ve spent the entire day in Magic Kingdom on your daughter’s first-ever visit to Walt Disney World. You stand in wait for the fireworks to begin as you scroll through all of the incredible photos you’ve taken of your daughter, your daughter and her father, and selfies of the three of you which- if you must say so yourself- all turned out perfectly!
The lights dim on Main Street and your daughter and her dad have never looked more adorable wrapped in each others’ arms. Just as you’re about to snap that perfect photo…your phone battery dies.
Portable Chargers at Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World Resort is notorious for exhausting guests of every age. There’s just so much to experience that 10+ hour days are to be expected and welcomed with open arms. 10 hour days are not, however, friendly to phone batteries. The My Disney Experience app has become such an integral part of a stress-free Disney vacation.
The newest addition to the Disney app fleet (Play DisneyParks) is designed to keep you and your family engaged and entertained…while successfully draining your phone battery down to 0. Combine all-day app use with endless photo snapping (and sharing with your friends back home), and you’ll be lucky if your battery lasts until the 3:00 parade!
Portable chargers are now available across Walt Disney World Resort Property, and they’re arguably the most affordable and most well worth-it investments any smartphone-clad family can invest in. The portable chargers cost a mere $30, and they are smaller than the smartphones themselves.
When you purchase a portable charge rod, it is powered and ready to provide you with a full charge. The best part of the rods are that when you drain their batteries, you can trade yours in for a brand new, fully-charged rod! Here are the details:
- One fully charged portable battery
- One 6” USB to micro-USB cable (for most Android devices)
- One Apple 30-pin to USB cable (for iPhone and iPad generations 1-4)
- One Apple Lightning to USB cable (for iPhone generations 5+)
You can find portable charge rod charge kiosks at:
- Magic Kingdom- Pecos Bills, Tomorrowland Light and Power Co., Big Top Souvenirs, Cosmic Ray’s, and Curtain Call Collectibles.
- Epcot- Disney Traders, International Gateway, Camera Center (aka you’ve gotta grab one before you head into World Showcase)
- Hollywood Studios- Rock Around the Shop, Celebrity 5 & 10
- Animal Kingdom- Island Mercantile
- Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach
- ESPN Wide World of Sports
- Disney Springs- Disney PhotoPass Studio, Welcome Center, Sundries
- Resort Hotels
Portable Chargers at Disneyland
The Resort out west may be smaller, but the days are just as long and will suck the life from your phone battery just the same. The price ($30) remains constant here, and like the WDW version, you have the option to either recharge your rod when its juice is low by using a USB to AC outlet, or by turning it in for a fully-charged rod.
Here’s what Disney has to say about recharging in the Parks: “Use one of the cables provided to connect your mobile phone or tablet to the portable battery. Then keep talking, texting or taking pictures while your device charges on the go. Fully charged, it provides up to 8 hours of talk time or up to 4 hours of mobile tablet usage. Hours of charged talk time and device usage are dependent upon age and condition of the mobile device.” -The Walt Disney Company.
If your travels take you to the Disneyland Resort, here is where you can recharge, replace, or purchase a portable charger for your smartphone:
- Disneyland Park- Main Street USA lockers, Tomorrowland ATM, it’s a small world Toy Shop, Westward Ho Trading, Pooh Corner
- California Adventure Park- Ramone’s House of Body Art, Gone Hollywood, Julius Katz and Sons, Knick’s Knacks
- Resort Hotels
