Celebrating Best Friend’s Day in Disney Style
There’s nothing like going through life with your bff, or best friend forever. Disney characters are no exception. Some of them go through life’s toughest battles with their best friends by their side. June 8 is Best Friend’s Day, so we wanted to take time out to honor Disney’s pals, buddies and best friends.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians are a ragtag group of friends that reluctantly came together at first but are now one of the strongest teams in the galaxy. There’s Rocket Raccoon, a smart-mouthed thief who is also the translator for his tree friend Groot. Drax is a highly-skilled warrior who takes everything at face value. Gamora is the serious assassin who keeps the group focused. Lastly, Starlord is their fearless leader who is equal parts goofy as he is strong. Like any solid group of pals, they all bring something unique and different to the table that, together, form a strong unit.

If you and your friends are like the Guardians, celebrate your friendship by going on their new ride, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! In Disney’s California Adventure Park in Hollywood Land. It recently replaced the Tower of Terror. This thrilling freefall follows Rocket Raccoon as he tries to save the rest of the Guardians from dangerous cages, all while causing mayhem and destruction. Along the way you’ll be listening to Starlord’s classic mixed tape of cheesy 80s music, but it might be hard to hear it over your friends’ laughter and screaming! That’s how friends make memories!
Winnie the Pooh and Friends
The stories of Winnie the Pooh are filled with friendship, love, adventure and, of course, honey. The pals in 100 Acre Wood are classic characters that warm our hearts. Winnie and Piglet are two of the best pals around, but also Eeyore, who might be a sad guy, but always has his friends to cheer him up. Tigger is one-of-a-kind and a truly energetic fellow. Rabbit might seem a little mean at first, but he’s really quite lovable. All of these characters come together for magical stories of fun and friendship.
Guests of all ages can relive the magic of Winnie’s stories of friendship on the slow-moving ride, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, located at both Disneyland and Disney World. Dive into a giant honey pot and make your way through the animatronic story-telling that showcases some of the highlights of the 100 Acre Wood. Outside of the ride, you’ll also find Rabbit’s Garden and Eeyore’s home, and you can even paint with honey with your friends!
Slinky Dog
If we’re talking about best friends, it would be rude of us to exclude man’s best friend – the dog! Slinky is the doggie companion to Woody, Buzz and the rest of the Toy Story gang. His expanding torso has helped the toys in many situations, and he’s always there to lend a helping hand and a smile. Slinky, along with Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Jessie, and Barbie may not be the main characters in Toy Story, but they certainly are all friends!
To celebrate them all, Toy Story Land is opening on June 30th at Walt Disney World. This park will shrink guests down to toy-size so they can experience the world just like Woody and Buzz do. In this park will be the Slinky Dog Dash, a fun, family-friendly coaster that takes you on the Mega Coaster Play Kit that Andy has set up – all on Slinky’s back!
Mike and Sulley
If you’re a fan of Monsters, Inc., then you already know why Mike and Sulley made it onto this list. The dynamic duo has been best buds ever since college (as seen in Monsters University) and even went into the same line of work – that is, scaring children. But when little Boo comes into their lives, everything gets turned upside down. They learn more about themselves, each other, and even Boo on their adventure, and go from scaring children to making them laugh. They prove that no matter how different you are, anyone can still be friends.
Disneyland offers guests a family-friendly ride through Mike and Sulley’s adventure to get Boo back home before Randall can stop them. You’ll ride through Monstropolis in a taxi cab as they race through the city to try and save Boo, with one wacky thing happening after the other!
Seven Dwarfs
Hi ho! It’s off to work they go and who said that best friends couldn’t be siblings? The seven dwarfs are seven unique brothers who band together both in the mines and to save Snow White. Their names give away their personality; well, except for Doc – there’s Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Bashful, and Sneezy. Like the Guardians, they all bring something unique and fun to the table, all while having the joy of being brothers.
The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a family-friendly coaster that takes guests around the jewel mine in their ride carts. It’s off to work you go in this fun swaying ride. Friends can get a photo at the end to remember their ride, and the line for the ride is even interactive, letting you help Doc sort and wash the new jewels.
