Health Official Confirms COVID Case Increases Not Linked to Theme Park Openings
We have a ray of good news to report this evening. During an Orange County, Florida COVID update today, the county’s top health official, Dr. Raul Pino, stated that the opening of area Theme Parks, including Walt Disney World, has not played into outbreaks in the area.
Associated Press Reporter, Mike Schneider, asked Dr. Pino during the press conference, “Now that all the Disney Theme Parks are reopened, have there been any reports of virus spread either coming from workers or visitors? Can you provide the same status update for Universal and Sea World?”
Dr. Pino responded, “Outbreaks, no. We have had isolated individuals that have become positive. Now, remember, we rely on date that is provided by individuals. So, it is self-reported. So someone could lie to us about where they were, where they live, or what the situation may be. So, having that in consideration, we haven’t seen any large amounts or numbers of positive cases some with tags that identify them to any of the parks.”
An update to those encouraging Orange Co. numbers:
According to @LSeabrookWFTV, the county numbers do include the WDW bubble tests – which would absolutely decrease the overall county positivity rate. https://t.co/GdftA2Me9M https://t.co/Cmpwr1t5tr

Today, Orange County reported 325 new COVID cases which is the lowest number of positive cases reported this month. The percent positive rate for the county is currently 7.4% which is the fourth day in a row that number has been under 10%. (World Health Officials note that a 5% positivity rate shows that the virus is “controlled.”) It is important to note that NBA and MLS teams that are staying inside the “Bubble” at Walt Disney World are included in total case counts for Orange County.
Let’s hope this good news from health officials in Orange County, Florida about COVID cases continues to come and that things start to turn around in California so theme parks out there, including Disneyland, can begin reopening!
