Taika Waititi Won’t Be Back To Direct Mandalorian Season 2
As fans of Disney+’s The Mandalorian anxiously await season 2, we here at MickeyBlog can tell you that at least one of our favorites won’t be back next season.
According to a recent piece in Digital Spy, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has revealed that he is not helm of any of the episodes for Season 2.
Waititi, who directed the season finale for The Mandalorian titled ‘Redemption’ explained, “I’m not directing any of the episodes of The Mandalorian because I was doing another film, a soccer film with Michael Fassbender.”
He added, “After Jojo Rabbit, I decided to make a sports film, something I’ve never done, about a sport I knew nothing about and I still don’t.”
The film in question is titled Next Goal Wins and features the American Samoa soccer team after it was beaten by Australia in the 2001 World Cup. The game made headlines for the 31-0 loss suffered by the American Samoa team.
Other famous directors featured during the premiere season of Disney+’s hit show including Rick Ramuyiwa, Deborah Chow and Bryce Dallas Howard. There ‘s no word as of yet as to whether any of them will be returning for Season 2.
In addition, Waititi held a Q&A on Instagram this week where he revealed some insights about the upcoming Thor sequel. You can find out more here.
The Mandalorian season one is now available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
