Disney+ Is Reportedly Gearing Up to Launch Star Wars and Marvel Channels
Disney+ has gone through a significant number of changes over the last couple of months with the integration of Hulu, an upgrade in back-end technology, and even a new turquoise color scheme.
If reports are true, however, we may have only seen the tip of the iceberg.
A new report from The Information says that Disney’s flagship streaming service is set to add channels, similar to what Pluto and Tubi do.
Marvel and Star Wars Disney+ Channels?
So far, it sounds like Disney has plans to have permanent Star Wars and Marvel channels. Other possible stations could include continuous streams of classic Disney animated films or Pixar.
In order to tune in, viewers will need to have a Disney+ subscription.
In many ways, Disney’s decision makes sense. The new streaming channels would certainly include advertising, giving Disney+ another revenue stream.
Always-On Channels Have Proven to be Popular
Additionally, streaming television stations, such as those found on Roku TV or the aforementioned Pluto and Tubi, have proven to be immensely popular.
A report from Bloomberg last week revealed that viewers are spending more time streaming Tubi channels than they are watching Peacock Max and Paramount Plus.
Amazon, meanwhile, already houses always-on channels within Prime Video through Freevee.
As streaming slowly but surely morphs back into cable, Disney seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. In addition to their planned addition of stations to Disney+, the company is also set to debut a sports-centric streaming service with Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox.
While the exact channels that Disney+ launches remain to be seen, here’s hoping that there will be a channel for classic Disney shorts. That is an idea I think everyone can get behind.
