Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney’s past. Today we are looking back at the events on this day in DIsney history- July 12.
July 11th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a cult-classic feature film, the opening of three Hong Kong Disneyland attractions, and the opening of a Star Wars attraction in Tokyo Disneyland. So, let’s get going!
Alice Wins the Derby Premiers (1925)
On this day in 1925, the Alice Comedy “Alice Wins the Derby” premiered at the Piccadilly Theater in New York City.
The short starred Margie Gay as Alice.
Nikki, Wild Dog of the North Released (1961)
On this day in 1961, Disney’s Nikki, Wild Dog of the North was released.
The film was based on the book “Nomads of the North” and told the story of a French-Canadian hunter, his bear cub, and his dog named Nikki.
The Gnome-Mobile Released (1967)
On this day in 1967, The Gnome-Mobile was released.
Based on the 1936 Upton Sinclair book “the Gnomobile”, the film told the story of lumber tycoon D.J. Mulrooney who stumbles across a duo of tiny gnomes.
Now You See Him, Now You Don’t Released (1972)
On this day in 1972, Now You See Him,Now You Don’t was released.
The film starred Kurt Russell as Dexter Riley, a chemistry student who invents a spray that makes its wearer invisible.
Star Tours Opens at Tokyo Disneyland (1989)
On this day in 1989, Star Tours opened at Tokyo Disneyland.
The attraction was the second version of Star Tours to open (Disneyland opened their version in 1987).
Three Tomorrowland Attractions Open in Hong Kong Disneyland (2006)
On this day in 2006, Hong Kong Disneyland unveiled three new Tomorrowland attractions.
Soft opening on this day are Stitch Encounter (which allows guests to interact with Stitch), Autopia, and UFO Zone.
