The Cancelled Disney+ Series ‘Nautilus’ Finds a Home on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland
Roughly one year after Disney dumped Nautilus, the series has found a home in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
For those who don’t remember, Disney+ originally commissioned Nautilus in 2021. A prequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the series tells the origin story of Captain Nemo.
Starring Shazat Latif, Nautilus explores the captain’s life before 20,000 League Under the Sea. It describes him as “an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company, and a man bent on revenge against the forces that have taken everything from him.”
Disney Canceled the Series After it Finished Production.
When Disney decided to cut ties with Nautilus as part of the company’s new streaming strategy, the series was completed. While fans were initially worried that the show would never see the light of day, that ended up not being the case.
Like the similarly discarded Spiderwick Chronicles (which would eventually air on Roku), Nautilus also found a new home.
Where Fans Can Watch ‘Nautilus’
Last October, AMC announced that it had acquired the rights to Nautilus in the United States. The series would eventually premiere on June 12, 2024.
Now, Amazon Prime Video has secured the rights to the series in the UK and Ireland through an exclusive deal with Disney.
It was a long and complicated process, but fans in those countries can finally see how Captain Nemo came to be.
Are you sure it premiered on June 12 in the US? I see on IMDB that it premiered in France, Brazil, and Sweden, but nothing about the US. I also can’t find it listed on the AMC website yet. They aren’t even promoting it as coming soon. The closest I can find is an October UK debut on Prime, but nothing seems to have been announced yet for the US.
