Playlist Revealed for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’ at EPCOT
Imagineer Zach Riddley discussed how they came up with this amazing soundtrack for the ride.
Today we dropped the “Awesome Mix” of six songs that will launch with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on May 27th!
Mad props to our Imagineers who rode the attraction hundreds of times to test different songs, narrowing to these final six that you’ll get to experience on board the Starjumpers:
“September”
“Disco Inferno”
“Conga”
“Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
“I Ran”
“One Way or Another”
The team brainstormed and tested so many songs and I got to join them as they started riding options onboard. In fact, they even had my playlist of favorite songs and we rode them all. In the height of this process I got to 30 rides spread over two days!!
We had to find that perfect balance for the song choices with fun energy, a flow that matched the major movements of the ride, and (where we could) lyrics that gave a fun nod to the story of our attraction….a chase across space and time to save the galaxy from our recently-announced villain, Eson, a Celestial who is larger than a planet!

You won’t know which of these six songs you’ll get on each ride, which invites you back for multiple trips across the galaxy.
These songs all bring a different energy to your ride, but the one that is my personal favorite is “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” When I saw this song on our working list, I thought “You HAVE to be kidding!” but this iconic New Wave and synth pop beat complete with synthesizers, guitar, a shuffle groove, two guitar solos and keyboards just hits in moments that are perfectly aligned with sensations and movement across the ride. It’s so different than the other five tracks. It was released in 1985, which puts it at the same timeframe as the first few years of EPCOT (which opened in 1982), a great nod. And the lyrics tie to the story of our ride, where “Every .. body… wants .. to .. rule … the…WORRRLD”
And what about the hundred songs the team tried not in the final cut? Well, many of them are in the exit corridor as you leave the attraction. Several dozen songs play in this area and help keep the excitement alive after you’ve just saved the galaxy and become honorary Guardians!
Are you ready to ride this amazing new ride? I know I am! Follow along as we cover everything Guardians as we get closer to the official opening.
