Disney Profits About $500,000 Off “The Beatles: Get Back” In IMAX
Nearly 70 IMAX theaters held a one-day-only screening of an edited version of “The Beatles: Get Back” and Disney profited about $500,000 in ticket sales.
“The Beatles: Get Back” is a one-hour special edition of the eight-hour performance. It was the band’s last live performance on the roof of their Apple Corps headquarters in London on January 30, 1969. “Peter Jackson edited this together so that you can see the concert in its full glory,” says Imax Entertainment president Megan Colligan. “And the turnout shows the power of coming together in a theater even though it’s on Disney+.”
The original eight-hour screening premiered on Disney+ last November as a three-part series. The edited version on Sunday was digitally remastered with proprietary Imax technology that enabled the film to fit the company’s wide-screen venues.
The Beatles: Get Back — The Rooftop Performance was shown exclusively in London BFI Imax theater on Sunday and will play exclusively in select Imax locations across the globe over the Feb. 11-13 weekend.
