CDC: Fully Vaccinated Americans Can Travel Without COVID Tests or Quarantine
As the light at the end of the tunnel keeps coming closer within the past few months, we have even more good news to share. Just today, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that Americans who have been fully vaccinated can now travel domestically without a negative COVID test or quarantine.
While the CDC says Americans who are fully vaccinated and a “low risk to themselves” can start visiting their families they haven’t seen for some time, they still need to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Director of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, said during today’s COVID task force meeting that, “Fully vaccinated grandparents can fly to visit their healthy grandkids without getting a Covid-19 test, or self-quarantining, provided they follow the other recommended prevention measures” including mask wearing, washing hands frequently, and social distancing.
If Americans are looking to travel internationally, the CDC also says the same rules apply. However, many countries currently have their own COVID precautions in place including mandatory proof of a negative COVID test prior to arrival.

Currently the United States requires that anyone visiting or returning to the country is required to show proof of a negative COVID test 72 hours prior to their return. Today, it is being reported that the CDC still recommends this requirement for fully vaccinated Americans. While this is still a requirement at this time, it will be interesting to see if it is lifted for those who can show proof that they are fully vaccinated. As a travel agent who does a lot of Disney bookings as well as vacations to destinations outside the country, I will be following this closely.
When it was announced today that fully vaccinated Americas can travel domestically without a negative COVID test or quarantine requirement, they did not address if anyone traveling will be required to show proof that they have been vaccinated. I reported earlier this week about “Vaccine Passports” and how these will most likely come about but will NOT be mandated by the government.
Currently, a few cruise lines including Royal Caribbean have announced a return to cruising from international ports for Americans. All passengers on these cruises who are 18 and over are required to show proof that they have been fully vaccinated. They did say that this won’t be a requirement forever though.
Once Disneyland reopens, only Guests who are California residents will be permitted entry but proof of vaccinations will not be required. Walt Disney World also does NOT require proof of vaccinations for Guests.

One is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine. Or, two weeks after they have received their Johnson & Johnson vaccine since it only consists of one shot. As of today, a total of 56 million Americans have fully vaccinated. An additional 100 million have received at least one dose.
Let us know what you think about these changes to travel guidelines for fully vaccinated Americans.
