Ryan Reynolds Says that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Be the “Most Deadpool Movie in the History of Deadpool”
With Marvel Studios set to only release one film in 2024, all eyes will be on the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine.
The third installment in the Deadpool franchise will not only see the Merc with the Mouth team up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, but it will also see Deadpool enter the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the first time.
As Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first film overseen by Kevin Feige and his team, many longtime Deadpool fans have worried that the film will lose its edge (and adult tone) that made the first Deadpool film so popular.
Luckily, according to Ryan Reynolds, fans have nothing to worry about.
“It feels like the most Deadpool movie in the history of Deadpool,” Ryan Reynolds promised Empire.
Feige Says the FIlm’s Stakes are “Universe-Sized”
While the exact plot of Deadpool & Wolverine is being kept under wraps, the first two trailers for the film show Wade Wilson being kidnapped by TVA boss Mr. Paradox.
There, according to Feige, Deadpool is shown the Sacred Timeline (for you non-Loki fans, that is the timeline where the MCU’s stories have largely taken place).
“Deadpool is very intrigued by that,” Feige told Empire. “[The Sacred Time] is the most glorious place in the world.”
As is so often the case, however, things may not be as simplistic as Mr. Paradox makes them seem.
“He learns soon thereafter that it’s not quite as simple an offer as he thought it was,” adds Feige. “And the stakes are universe-sized.”
A Love Story at Heart
Even with the massive stakes, according to Ryan Reynolds, it is the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine that at the heart of the film (thus the title). Luckily, Renyolds and Jackman have a long personal friendship in real life.
“As much as I take the ever-loving fucking piss out of him each and every day, underneath that is a genuine love story,” says Reynolds. “As adversarial as we are in the movie, the undercurrent is one of real love. Getting to spend time with my two closest friends, and waking up in the morning with a passionate devotion to say something so horrendous that they fall over laughing is a gift.”
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26.
