Dave Batista May Be Preparing for Life Away From Drax
The Guardians of the Galaxy have been one of the surprising developments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; with the character of Drax being an integral part of that.
These little-known comic characters were simply an intergalactic team of heroes before writer and director James Gunn transformed the group into a ragtag collection of misfit bounty hunters with a penchant for heroism.
Marvel has bred some of their most popular and beloved characters through the two films. With Vol. 3 on the way in the MCUs Phase 4, fans will again join the team on their galactic adventures of hilarity.
One of the film’s most surprising stars came in the form of Dave Batista’s Drax. The character, originally conceived as a warrior with a rare intensity, transformed under the master of Gunn; becoming an overly literal guardian with a heart of gold (and the power to stand incredibly still).
Batista, however, cast doubt on Drax’s presence in the MCU following his appearance in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Batista said, “I don’t think they’re very interested, or it doesn’t fit in the way they have things mapped out,”
the actor continued, “but other than that, no. I mean, as far as my obligations, I’ve got Guardians 3, and that’s probably going to be the end of Drax.”
The former WWE champion found a second career in acting; and found a principal performer in the role of Drax the Destroyer.
His ability to play the comedic sides of the character established the former pro wrestler as a respected actor.
With roles in films like Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis, Stuber, and Bushwick; Batista has developed an impressive filmography since his retirement from wrestling.
Batista joined an all-star cast when he stepped onto the set of the original Guardians of the Galaxy. names like Christ Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel were among the most respected actors to join the MCU.
The ambitious project established Pratt and Batista as Hollywood mainstays and continued to solidify the other actors who performed so incredibly on the film.
It is sad to think that this may be the end of the Drax character, but one thing is certain; whatever happens, James Gunn will most certainly provide fans with an unforgettable ride.
