Disney Holiday Movies You Should Binge Watch
Today is the first day of November and we’re only a few weeks away from Thanksgiving. That doesn’t mean you can’t start your Disney holiday movie binge now though. Here’s a fun tidbit — or challenge — if you actually watched one Disney movie — even shorts and made-for-TV movies — every day from now until Christmas, you can probably watch all of them before December 25th.
But if that’s a little too much even for the avid holiday movie over, that’s okay. We’ve narrowed down the list just a little bit for you. Before you get started, make sure you stock up on some buttery popcorn — and maybe some wassail — to put you even more in the mood.
The Santa Clause
This popular Tim Allen trilogy started in 1994 and includes The Santa Clause 2 (2002) and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006). Allen portrays Scott Calvin, a divorced dad who accidentally causes Santa Clause to fall from his roof on Christmas Eve. Once Scott puts on the Santa suit, he becomes Santa and heads up to the North Pole. The first Santa Clause is the best of the three, especially watching Allen transform into the jolly one.
A Christmas Carol
This 2009 animated version of the classic tale stars the one and only Jim Carrey who puts on an amazing performance as Ebenezer Scrooge. Carrey also portrays the three ghosts who will later haunt him. This version is a bit darker than many of the others, but definitely enjoyable.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol
If you’re looking for something a little lighter and shorter than Carrey’s A Christmas Carol, then try this 1983 version. It includes many Disney characters including Goofy, Mickey, and more. At only 26 minutes, it’s a great way to introduce the younger kids to this traditional holiday tale. This is one of the classic Disney holiday movies you must watch!
Frozen
Who can think of winter and snow and ice without thinking of the Disney blockbuster hit movie, Frozen? We know we can’t. This 2013 movie was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen” and is about a fearless princess who sets off on a journey to find her sister, whose powers have trapped their kingdom in an eternal winter. You’ll be singing “Let It Go” as much as you’ll sing “Jingle Bells” this holiday season, but that’s okay. The kids love this one.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
If you’ve never seen this 1992 version, you’ll be writing to thank us. When Gonzo portrays Charles Dickens and Bob Cratchit is played by Kermit the Frog, you’re already off on a wild adventure and it only gets better from here. You’re welcome. Save some popcorn, you might watch this one twice.
I’ll Be Home for Christmas
In this 1998 movie, Jake Wilkinson (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) is an 18-year-old attending school in California. His father tells him that since he hasn’t been home for awhile, he’ll give Jake his Porsche if he’s home by 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Of course, it’s not that simple and Jake runs into many trials and tribulations on his way back home, but does he make it in time? You’ll get no spoilers from us, but this is one of the Disney holiday movies you must watch!
Santa Buddies
If you’re looking for a cute story and cute dogs in cute Santa hats, this movie can’t get any more, well…cute. It’s Santa Buddies after all. At the North Pole, Santa Claus (George Wendt) and his dog Santa Paws (Tom Bosley) take a look at the magical Christmas Icicle, which is melting because nobody believes in Christmas anymore. If it completely melts, Christmas is at risk of being lost forever. Of course the puppies enter the movie to try and get the Christmas spirit back again.
