Ronald D. Moore Has Left Disney For Sony Potentially Ending the Magic Kingdom Universe
Ronald D. Moore has left his post with 20th Century Studio and is heading back to Sony Pictures Television.
At Disney, Moore was to be the architect of a “Magic Kingdom Universe,” which would have created an interconnected world that would have brought together the locations and characters of various Disney Parks attractions.
The universe was expected to start with Moore’s project based on The Society of Explorers and Adventurers and expand from there.

According to a 2021 The Hollywood Reporter report, Moore was working in tandem with Walt Disney Imagineering and had created a “mini-writers room.”
Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis, who are longtime Moore collaborators, were also attached to the project.
Following the initial announcement of Moore’s deal with Disney, details on The Society of Explorers and Adventurers were few and far between. Earlier this year, however, 20th Television President Karey Burke stated the project was still in development.
In addition to The Society of Explorers and Adventurers, Moore was also reported to be working on a Swiss Family Robinson series for Disney+ alongside Jon M. Chu.

Now, however, that no longer appears to be the case. As part of his new deal with Sony, Moore’s Tall Ship Productions banner and collaborators Davis and McGinnis will all develop and produce series for both cable and streaming.
With Moore’s departure, it appears that not only will The Society of Explorers and Adventurers and the Swiss Family Robinson series not come to fruition, but the entire Magic Kingdom Universe may be dead.
