Disney Announces the Official Closing Date For the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade
Earlier today, we brought you the news that the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade would be closing in the Magic Kingdom to make way for a new Disney Vacation Club member lounge.
At the time, it was reported that construction on the new lounge was set to begin later this year, though the exact timeline remained unclear.

Since that time, however, Disney has updated the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade website and we can now confirm that the attraction will close on Sunday, June 23.
An Opening Day Attraction
For those who don’t know, the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade opened with the rest of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

The shooting gallery recreates the 1950 shoot on Boot Hill in Tombstone, Arizona, and features 97 different targets.
When the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade originally opened (as the Frontierland Shootin’ Gallery), the attraction used real lead balls. This changed in 1982 when the gallery switched to infra-red technology. While never the most popular attraction, the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade has been a fun part of generations of Disney World vacations.
Now, the Magic Kingdom attraction will give way for another Disney Vacation Club member lounge.
More Details on the New Lounge
According to Scott Gustin, the new DVC lounge will be a “pioneer-inspired space” inspired by the “bygone era of exploration and adventure.”

In all likelihood, the new area will be similar to the DVC lounge in EPCOT’s Imagination! pavilion. It will be a place where DVC members can relax, charge their devices, and enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks.

At this time, it is unclear when the new lounge will open, although Disney has previously announced that it should debut this year.
So ends the story of an original Magic Kingdom attraction.
