At 98 Years Old, Dick Van Dyke Continues to Make History
Even at the age of 98, Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke continues to break new ground.
The legendary actor made history last week when he took home the 2024 Daytime Emmy Award for guest performer in a daytime drama series. The win made Van Dyke the oldest actor to receive a Daytime Emmy.

By the time Van Dyke arrived at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards show, he had already made history as the oldest nominee in history.
Van Dyke Was Jovial at the Ceremony
When asked how it felt to be attending the ceremony, Van Dyke joked about both his storied career and his advanced age.

“I feel like a spy from nighttime television,” Van Dyke joked. “I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”
Van Dyke was nominated for his turn on Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed a mystery man who is suffering from amnesia.

The legendary actor said that he had a “wonderful time” on the soap opera and revealed that he ruined a take of a serious scene by laughing.
“I’m 98 years old. Can you believe it? This tops a lifetime of 80 years in the business. I love you, God bless,” he said.
A Legendary Career
Saying that his Daytime Emmy Award tops a career that included The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Poppins, and Bye Bye Birdie goes to show how delighted Van Dyke was at the honor.

It also goes to show that even as the veteran actor approaches his 100th birthday, he is showing no signs of slowing down.
