‘Runaways’ Has Found a New Home on Streaming After Being Removed From Disney+
2023 will long be remembered as the year that Disney’s streaming strategy changed forever.
After years of chasing new subscribers by producing content at a breakneck pace, Disney made a hard left turn.

In a push for profitability, the company removed hundreds of titles from Disney+ and Hulu, many of which were the same original series that they had created to draw fans in.
In addition to the library purge, we also saw Disney remove new content just days after they premiered and even cancel shows that had yet to premiere.

As many, if not most, of the series that Disney purged from their streaming library, had never gotten physical releases, fans had no way to watch the content once it was removed.
Over the last seven or eight months, however, we have started to see the purged Disney content appear on other platforms.
Marvel’s ‘Runaways’ Disappeared Last Year
Of all the shows removed from Disney’s streaming platforms, there was perhaps none more surprising than Marvel’s Runaways.
Unlike many of the other removed shows, which were largely stand-alone series, Runaways was ostensibly part of the hallowed Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Originally conceived as a motion picture, Runaways was eventually developed by the now-defunct Marvel Television. The show is centered on six former friends who learn that their parents are members of an ancient society. The teens eventually learn that they have superpowers, which they use to fight.
A New Home on The CW
Interestingly, nearly one year after being removed from Disney+, Runaways has found a new home on The CW app.

Disney has previously spoken about licensing its content to third-party streamers. Now, the well-received Marvel show finally has a new home on streaming.

Perhaps this is just the beginning, and we will see other purged content resurface elsewhere.
