‘Mad Max’ Director Discusses a Potential Reunion With Chris Hemsworth For ‘Thor 5’
While Taika Waititi managed to revive the Thor franchise and reignite Chris Hemsworth’s enthusiasm for the God of the Thunder with 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, the director was unable to recapture the magic for Thor: Love and Thunder.
Although Ragnarok was lauded for its irreverent tone and humor, many fans thought that Waititi and Hemsworth relied too heavily on humor in Love and Thunder to the point that it undermined the film’s stakes and narrative.

Since the release of the fourth Thor film, Hemsworth has admitted that the film was “too silly” and that he became something of a parody of himself. Waititi, meanwhile, has publically stated that he will not be returning for a possible Thor 5.
With Hemsworth openly stating that he feels he owes fans another, better Thor movie, the question looming over the future of the franchise is who will direct the fifth installment.
Enter George Miller
During an interview with Comicbook.com, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga director George Miller discussed the possibility of working with Hemsworth (who stars in the latest Mad Max film) on Thor 5.
“I would work with Chris on anything. I really would. He’s a wonderful actor. He’s got the full range of all the skills,” the director said.

“I mean, you’ve got to be athletic, physically. But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really. So, I was very lucky with all my cast and particularly in the way that Anya and Chris matched each other. Particularly towards the end of the month.”
For his part, Hemsworth has lauded Miller for his creativity and work ethic. During an appearance at CCXP, the actor had this to say:

“When you do an action film, a lot of the time you’re trying different things, you’re experimenting, and you’re trying to make the sequence as impressive and as big as possible.”
“And you have backups and other options, and that can be exhausting. What was refreshing working with George is that every frame was thought out. Every single frame was necessary; it was servicing the whole. It was part of a grander plan and a message, and so there was no waste.”

While Thor 5 has yet to be announced by Marvel, it seems likely that if Hemsworth returns, the film will be made. Perhaps, then, Miller and Hemsworth could recreate some of their Furiosa magic and breathe new life into the Thor franchise once again.
