DisneylandForward Is Official After 7-0 Vote
DisneylandForward is official.
After three years of negotiations, The Walt Disney Company has finally gained the approval of Anaheim’s City Council.
A 7-0 vote secured the zoning rights that Disney had requested.
Now, park expansion at Disneyland Resort isn’t merely possible but inevitable.
Let’s talk about an eventful night at The Happiest Place on Earth.
A Smooth Vote
I’m typing this at 10:45 PM on the East Coast, which is to say earlier than the last couple of Anaheim City Council reports.
Those ran past midnight on the West Coast as many Anaheim residents expressed their concerns and hopes for the project.
Three weeks ago, the battle was won, although we didn’t technically know that until tonight.
At the time, an often acrimonious discussion led to intransigence on both sides but, ultimately, a 7-0 vote in Disney’s favor.
On Tuesday evening, May 7th, the proceedings didn’t take anywhere near as long.
After less than 90 minutes of public speeches, most of which were against the project, the Anaheim City Council voted again.
This 7-0 result is final, as there are no additional hurdles to clear.
In fact, the Disney Parks Blog has already published an article entitled “Our Future Starts Now with DisneylandForward.”
I’ll add more details in a bit, but that’s the quick update here.
Disneyland Resort has gotten its way and laid the groundwork for up to $2.5 billion in park expansion projects.
