Former ESPN ‘Stump the Schwab’ Star Howie Schwab Has Passed Away
Howard Schwab, the longtime ESPN producer who rose to fame as the star of the sports trivia show Stump the Schwab, has passed away at 63.
Schwab began his career at ESPN in 1987, wokring as a produer on multiple ESPN shows. He became a household name, however, in 2004 when he starred in the ESPN game show Stump the Schwab.
On the show, contestants would pit their sports knowledge against each other until they got to the final round. There, they would go toe to toe with the Schwab.
While Stump the Schwab only lasted for two years, it left a lasting legacy with sports fans and ESPN viewers.
Tributes Pour In
Following the news of Schwab’s passing, longtime ESPN analyst DIck Vitale took to social media to remember his friend..
“So sad to learn of the passing of my loyal dedicated buddy @howieschwab,” Vitale wrote. “He was recently at my home. Had various health issues but was feeling good when he visited. May he please RIP.”

Former Sportscenter anchor Linda Cohen also fondly remembered Schwab.
“Howie Schwab was one of the most unselfish, caring and intelligent person I ever worked with at ESPN. He made all of us smarter. We’d always talk about family, friends and of course Rangers hockey. You will be missed. RIP Howie,” she wrote.

Work Outside of ESPN
After leaving ESPN in 2013, Schwab worked for Fox Sports and on Sports Jeopardy! as both a consultant and writer.
At this time, no information has been released on Schwab’s cause of death.
