Michael Douglas Wanted His Character Killed Off in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’
Michael Douglas had one request for Marvel when he agreed to return for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — he wanted his character to die.
After playing Hank Pym in the first two Ant-Man installments, Douglas reprised his role in last year’s Quantumania. While the film managed to outgross its predecessors, it underperformed at the box office, which kicked off a tough year for Marvel.
During a recent appearance on The View, Douglas was asked about previous comments that he had made to The Hollywood Reporter, in which he stated that he wanted his character killed off. Here is what the Hollywood legend had to say.
“This actually was my request for the third one,” Douglas explained of his desire for Pym to be killed off. “I said I’d like to have a serious [death], with all these great special effects. There’s got to be some fantastic way where I can shrink to an ant size and explode, whatever it is.”
Would Douglas Return For an ‘Ant-Man 4’?
Obviously, Marvel chose to go in a different direction, and Hank Pym managed to survive the events of Quantumania. The question, then, is, would Douglas return for a fourth film?
On the red carpet for Quantumania last year, the veteran actor said he would return for Ant-Man 4 “as long as I could die.” During his View appearance, however, he didn’t sound interested in the prospect.
“I want to use all those effects. But, that was on the last one. Now, I don’t think I’m going to show up.”
The question might be moot anyway. The disappointing reaction to Quantumania likely ended Ant-Man as a solo franchise. By the sound of things, Douglas is more than happy to exit stage left.
It doesn’t sound like we will see Hank Pym on the big screen anytime soon.
