Kirsten Dunst Doesn’t Think ‘Spider-Man 4’ Is Such a Good Idea
Despite the fact that the film was canceled 13 years ago, rumors continue to swirl that Spider-Man 4, starring Tobey Maguire, will still swing into theaters.
The latest rumors reached a fever pitch when Thomas Haden Church, who portrayed Sandman in Spider-Man 3, stated that he had heard that Sam Raimi was working on the long-awaited fourth installment in the franchise.
Raimi would later deny that he had heard anything about the project, which has not stopped speculation from running rampant.
Dunst Isn’t Sure About ‘Spider-Man 4’
Despite publically stating that she would be willing to reprise her role as Mary Jane in a potential Spider-Man 4, in a recent interview, Kirsten Dunst questioned whether or not it would be a good idea to make the film.
“I don’t think we need that. I don’t know. It was so long ago. I just don’t know how they would, what the story would be. I don’t know,” Dunst explained.
“It seems like … I don’t know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?”
The Franchise Remains Popular
While Dunst is right that the franchise would certainly have to go a different route following its nearly 20-year hiatus, she also may underestimate the fanbase that the franchise had.
If Tobey Maguire’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home proved anything, it’s that Raimi’s version of the character continues to resonate with fans.
While a Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4 remains unlikely, everyone is still talking about it all these years later. That has to count for something.
