Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Thunderbolts*’ Name Change at CinemaCon
Despite the fact that Marvel is only set to send one film to theaters in 2024 (Deadpool & Wolverine), the studio still had a large presence at yesterday’s CinemaCon.
Among the films highlighted by Kevin Feige and his team were the upcoming 2025 releases Captain America: Brave New World, The Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts.
While Feige did not have a ton to reveal about the later film, he did confirm that the film has been officially retitled Thunderbolts*. He also revealed that the new additional asterisk will carry meaning.
“Yes, you’ll notice the asterisk on ‘Thunderbolts.’ That is the official title of ‘Thunderbolts,’ and we won’t talk more about that until after the movie comes out,” he teased.
A New Kind of Marvel Team
For those who are unaware, Thunderbolts* will see the formation of a new kind of superhero team in the MCU — a squad made up of former villains and anti-heroes.
Assembled by Valentia Allegra de Fontaine, the new team will be comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and U.S. Agent (Russell).
While Florence Pugh did not attend CinemaCon in person, the Thunderbolts* star did send a video message.
Florence Pugh Sends Her Regards
Appearing on the Thunderbolts* set and eating a bowl of mac & cheese with hot sauce (a nod to her character’s favorite food), Pugh sent her regards to the CinemaCon crowd.
“Hello CinemaCon, how are you doin? I’m so gutted that I’m not there to say hi, but I’m on a night shoot on the fantastic set of Thunderbolts*,” she began.
“I’m sending you my love, but I hear Kevin is with you, which is kind of just as good, if not better.”
