Kit Harington Gives a Disappointing Update on His MCU Future
Once upon a time, Kit Harington seemed like he would be a major player in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Harington made his MCU debut in 2021’s Eternals playing Dane Whitman, a scientist, historian, and boyfriend of Sersi.
Whitman served as a source of support and moral consciousness for Sersi, eventually learning that she was an Eternal. Perhaps more interestingly, however, Whitman was eventually revealed to be the owner of the Ebony Blade.
After Sersi was abducted from Earth by Arishemm, Harington came to terms with his family’s past and seemed ready to wield the Ebony Blade for himself. As he prepared to wield the weapon, he heard the voice of Blade saying, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”
‘Eternals’ Has Been Largely Ignored By the Broader MCU
Harington’s final scene in Eternals seemed to not only set his character up to become Black Knight but perhaps continue his story in Blade.
In the three years since Eternals was released, however, the film has largely been ignored by the broader MCU. Because of this, many have wondered if Dane Whiteman’s story would continue.
Harington Would Love to Return
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Kit Harington admitted that while he would love to continue Black Knight’s story in the MCU, nothing is currently in development.
“I hope that they do something with that character. I think that character is fascinating and brilliant. And I love his trajectory in the comics. I love the idea of a good guy being turned bad by his superpower. I think that’s brilliant. I’m not sure whether we’ve had a protagonist that’s like that, so I think it’s a really strong idea. I’d love them to [revisit him],” he began.
“I don’t know, though. The honest answer is nothing’s in the works at the moment. If they decide to use the character in something, or as a solo thing, I’d be very excited by it. But I don’t think it’s planned at the moment.”
Will We See Black Knight Again?
With an Eternals 2 increasingly looking unlikely, Blade seemed like the best chance for Harington to return. By the sound of things, however, Black Knight will not be included in the upcoming film.
Still, with Harington openly campaigning to return, hopefully, we will see Black Knight properly introduced in the MCU.
