“We are so excited and happy to announce that a live-action re-imagining of Moana is in the works. Moana, Tala, the music, the dance, Tahiti, Pua the Pig, the village, the beautiful, powerful ocean. Hei Hei is going to be in it, but of course, Maui is going to be in it too,” Johnson revealed at the time.
Subsequently, Auli’i Cravalho revealed that she would not be reprising her role in the film.

“When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career,” she stated. “In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.”
