‘X-Men ’97’ Brought in 4 Million Viewers in Its First Five Days Streaming
The X-Men are back and better than ever!
X-Men ’97, the revival of the fan-favorite 90s animated classic X-Men: The Animated Series, has been an undeniable hit for Marvel.

The series is currently the highest-rated Marvel Studios production ever, with a 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Building on the Classic Series
More than simply a remake of X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men ’97 begins where the original series left off, with the X-Men picking up the pieces after the loss of Professor Charles Xavier.
“We spent all of our time and all of our creative effort trying to emulate our memory of this thing, which is why it was so important not only to get the cast back, but to get [original series co-creator] Eric Lewald back and [original series director] Larry Houston back to tell us how the original show was made and to help us come up with our parameters,” said Brad Winderbaum, Marvel head of streaming and animation.
X-Men ’97 features the returning talents of Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, and Alison Sealy-Smith. Additionally, the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series theme song has returned.
Strong Viewership Numbers
In addition to being a hit with critics, X-Men ’97 has pulled in huge viewership numbers over its first five days of streaming.
In fact, according to Disney, X-Men ’97 has drawn four million viewers in its first five days, making it the most-watched animated series premiere on Disney+ since 2021’s What If…?.

That means that the X-Men managed to beat out What If…? season 2, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, and both seasons of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, among others.
More than just leaning into nostalgia, X-Men ’97 has delivered a quality story through its first two episodes. Hopefully, that quality will continue, and Marvel will continue to have a much-needed hit on its hands.
