Head of Marvel Studios Animation Says ‘Marvel Zombies’ Will “Earn” Its TV-MA Rating
Marvel Studios is currently riding high, as its latest animated effort, X-Men ’97, has wowed fans and critics alike on its way to becoming the highest-rated Marvel project ever.
Following the success of the multiversal animated series What If…? the studio decided to dive head first into animation, with a plethora of projects in production.
Earlier this week. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation, revealed that the upcoming Black Panther series, Eyes of Wakanda, will be set on the MCU’s Sacred Timeline.
Perhaps the most anticipated upcoming animated series, however, is Marvel Zombies.
Marvel’s Second “TV-MA” Project
The What If…? spin-off will dive deeper into the universe where Marvel’s heroes have been infected by a deadly virus. Perhaps more interesting is that the series will be Marvel’s second streaming show to receive a TV-MA rating.
In a recent interview with IGN, Winderbaum stated that the series will earn its TV-MA rating and won’t be pulling any punches.
“In terms of more mature animation, yeah. We’re making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-MA show,” he began.
“And again, it’s trying to honor the comics. And what was so great about the comics was it not pulling its punches. That’s certainly what we’re going for on that project also.”
When Will ‘Marvel Zombies’ Premiere
Marvel Zombies is being directed by Bryan Andrews and written by creator Zeb Wells. The series is based on the Marvel Zombies comic series, which was first issued in 2005.
While Marvel Zombies was initially expected to premiere in 2024, Disney has not confirmed a release date.
