Disney’s ‘Wish’ Finally Gets a Disney+ Release Date!
When Disney released Wish last November, the studio believed the film would be the crown jewel of its 100th-anniversary celebration.
Leaning into the century of Disney stories that came before it, Wish The introduced audiences to the Kingdom of Rosas, where they met an optimistic young girl named Asha who sensed a darkness around the kingdom’s ruler, King Magnifico.
In Rosas, citizens’ wishes are granted by the seemingly benevolent ruler. As it turns out, however, he may not be as magnanimous as he seems.
In her moment of desperation, Ahsa makes a fervent wish to the stars. Her plea is answered when a celestial body named Star comes crashing down to Earth.
‘Wish’ Struggled at the Box Office
Despite Disney’s high expectations, Wish struggled mightily at the box office. Even though it secured a coveted Thanksgiving release, the film managed to gross a measly $253 million at the box office.
The film continued Disney’s struggles in non-Pixar animation, as it followed on the heels of 2022’s disappointing Strange World.
When ‘Wish’ Will Land on Disney+
Well, over five months after the film debuted in theaters, Disney has announced that Wish will officially premiere on Disney+ on April 3.
For those who skipped catching Wish in theaters, the film’s arrival on Disney+ will allow them to watch the movie from the comfort of their own home.
While Wish will undoubtedly be remembered as a failure because of its box office run, Disney is likely hoping that the film will find the audience that eluded it in theaters.
