‘X-Men ’97’ Executive Producer Comments on Beau DeMayo Firing
The Marvel world was shocked earlier this week when news came out that X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo had been fired from Marvel Studios just over a week before the series premiere.
DeMayo had a long history with Marvel Studios. Before his work on X-Men ’97, DeMayo wrote Moon Knight for Disney+ and also worked on an early draft of the still unreleased Blade. He had recently completed writing duties on season two of the X-Men series, was lining up press, and planning to attend the show’s Hollywood premiere last night.
A Stunning Exit
According to reports, the parting of ways between DeMayo and Marvel happened early last week. His company email was subsequently deactivated, and the cast and crew were informed that he was no longer a part of the project.
While no reason for the firing was given, DeMayo’s Instagram account has also been deleted. The showrunner had previously had a large presence on social media but has gone dark as of late.
‘X-Men’97’ Producer Talks DeMayo’s Exit
While both DeMayo and Marvel have yet to give an official statement on the former’s unceremonious exit, in a statement to Variety, X-Men ’97 executive producer Brad Winderbaum praised DeMayo for his work on the show.
“He did excellent work writing Seasons 1 and 2, and I can’t wait for fans to see the series,” Winderbaum said. “The entire team came together to create a revival worthy of the X-Men’s 60-year legacy. From Stan and Jack, to Claremont, to the Lewalds, we all truly were standing on the shoulders of giants.”
X-Men ’97, which is a continuation of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, will stream on Disney+ on March 20.
