‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Would Have Been a VERY Different Movie Had Disney Not Bought Fox
If The Walt Disney Company had not acquired 20th Century Fox, plans for Deadpool & Wolverine would have been very different.
One of the most anticipated films of 2024 and the third installment in the Deadpool franchise will not only see Hugh Jackman return to his iconic role of Wolverine, but it will also see Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool officially enter the MCU.
Karan Soni Did Not Know the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer Was Coming
One character who was always going to return for the third Deadpool film was Karan Soni’s Dopinder. Just because he was in the film, however, doesn’t mean that anyone at Marvel told him the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer was coming.
“I didn’t even know it was coming. They’re not telling me anything, which is good. Honestly, to bring it back to Roshan [Sethi], on our first date I recapped the plot of ‘Deadpool 3’, which I wasn’t supposed to,” Soni recalled at SXSW.
“This was the Fox version, which didn’t get made because the studio got sold or whatever. But we just met, and I was desperate to impress him, and I just blurted the entire thing. I told him Hugh Jackman was gonna be in it — this was years before.”
What Was the “Fox Version” Of ‘Deadpool 3″
Hearing Soni’s story, Screen Rant followed up with the actor, asking what the “Fox version” of Deadpool 3 would have entailed.
“Yes, I think it’s online a little bit, so I can. It was going to be originally a road trip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas, so we all go to the North Pole.”
While a Christmas Deadpool movie sounds promising, there is no doubt that seeing Ryan Reynold’s Merc with the Mouth interact with the MCU is a better result.
Deadpool & Wolverine is being set up to drastically change the course of the MCU, perhaps even setting up Avengers: Secret Wars. In fact, this time around, Marvel is keeping things so far under wrap that they did not even give Soni a full script.
“All to say I didn’t get a script this time, thank God! They didn’t even tell me the trailer was coming out,” he revealed. “I got to watch it when it came out, and I’m excited to be a small part of it.”
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26.
