Sarah Polley Exits ‘Bambi’ Leaving the Future of the Live-Action Remake in Doubt
When Bob Iger stated earlier this week that Disney had “quietly” shelved projects that it did not think were working, fans instantly began to speculate what films the Disney CEO was referring to.
More important than Iger’s revelation, however, was the news last month that Sean Bailey was leaving The Walt Disney Company after serving as President of Walt Disney Motion for over a decade.
While Bailey may not have been a household name, he was one of the most influential people in Hollywood. It was under Bailey’s purview that Disney embraced its strategy of creating live-action remakes of animated films.
Bailey’s exit suddenly puts the future of previously announced live-action remakes in doubt.
Bad News For ‘Bambi’
Earlier this week, we reported that Disney’s remake of The Sword in the Stone looked to be canceled. Now, we have bad news about Disney’s Bambi remake.
According to The Wrap, director Sarah Polley has left Bambi, leaving the future of the project in doubt.
For those who don’t remember, a photorealistic CGI remake of the animated classic was originally announced in 2020, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer writing the script.
Disney initially described the film as a “companion piece” to The Jungle Book and The Lion King.
Last year, Sarah Polley reportedly was in talks to direct the film, which was then described as a musical that would feature music from Kacey Musgraves.
Since that time, however, updates have been few and far between. With Bailey gone and Disney being more selective in what films it releases, the future of Bambi looks bleak.
