What’s Doing Well on Disney+ (Other Than Bluey)?
We’ve got another week of Nielsen streaming charts to discuss, which leads to a simple question.
What’s doing well on Disney+ other than Bluey? And does Disney really need anything else?
Disney’s Current Streaming Hits

Disney+
If you’ve read any of the other recent Nielsen streaming charts articles, you know what’s popular right now.
Generally, the charts remain relatively static for two or three months, at least for Disney content.
Several of last week’s programs earned a spot on the charts again this week.

For instance, This Is Us once again hovered in the top five on the Acquired chart.
People watched 776 million minutes of This Is Us during the week of January 22nd through January 28th.
That’s down slightly from the previous week’s 929 million minutes.

Also, as a reminder, this title’s inclusion is a bit misleading.
While you can watch This Is Us on Hulu, it’s recently become available on Netflix as well.
Disney has licensed the content to make a quick buck. And the contrast here is dramatic.

This Is Us hadn’t charted before it was available on Netflix.
That streaming service is paying Disney to non-exclusively stream a Disney-owned series that’s also available on Hulu.
That’s a nice piece of business for Disney right there.

We also have a new entry this week that’s also a joint venture.
You’ll find Rick and Morty on Max and Hulu right now, which is admittedly a weird combination.
The show airs on Adult Swim, a Warner Bros. Discovery entity with a Hulu licensing agreement.

Season seven started streaming on both services on January 22nd.
Fans rushed to enjoy it, with 617 million minutes watched.
Finally, we have Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.

The Percy Jackson film
The penultimate episode’s debut gained another 530 million viewer minutes, which is nearly identical to next week.
I’d expected a bigger bump as people binge-rush to the season finale. Maybe that’ll happen next time.
The Power of Bluey

Given the success of some of the other programs, we face a second aspect of this discussion.
Does Disney really need anything else, or is Bluey enough?
Obviously, I’m being a bit tongue-in-cheek because not everybody likes Bluey.
I’ve only seen parts of three episodes, and that was because I was doing a review. But I do know data.
The data with Bluey is as strong as anything I’ve ever seen, and I’m including Encanto and Moana in that.
During the week of January 22nd through January 28th, fans watched 1.251 billion minutes of Bluey.

Perhaps the real story is that Bluey fell 16 percent from the previous week, although that’s a bit misleading.
Bluey aired a new batch of episodes that week, which heightened interest.
To a larger point, Bluey has separated itself from all other Disney+ content. It was the streaming service’s top program in 2023.

Yes, for all the love that The Mandalorian, Loki, and Elemental have earned, they cannot touch Bluey.
In calendar 2023, people watched nearly 44 billion minutes of Bluey.
So, while Disney obviously does need other Disney+ content, the reality is that Bluey is THE anchor program.
Elemental and What’s Not Listed

After two weeks without a title listed on the Movies chart, Disney+ made a comeback this week.
Elemental returned with 213 million viewer minutes.
On the one hand, it barely eked into the top ten with a ninth place finish and a modest total of minutes watched.

On the other hand, this title debuted on streaming on September 13th but is somehow still placing in the top ten.
We’re still in the early days of this bit of tracking. However, Elemental is demonstrating the same staying power as Moana.
As a reminder, Moana just got a sequel. As unlikely as the proposition once appeared, Elemental 2 is becoming a distinct possibility.

Finally, now that we’ve had a couple of weeks to verify, I can make a conclusion.
Disney’s unique release strategies for Echo and What If…? season two worked as intended.
Neither show probably would have gained enough new viewers to earn a consistent spot on the charts.

By offering both series as winter binge options, Disney gave both titles a couple of weeks in the spotlight.
However, I have higher hopes for X-Men ’97, whose advance viewer metrics are shockingly good.

The Hollywood Reporter recently indicated that more people have viewed the X-Men ’97 teaser than any other animated Marvel/Star Wars series.
This one’s shaping up to be the latest hit for Disney+…but it won’t beat Bluey. Nothing beats Bluey.
