Ron DeSantis Names CFTOD Administrator Glen Gilzean as Orange County Supervisor of Elections
Florida governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Glen Gilzean as Supervisor of Elections in Orange County.
Gilzean has recently entered the spotlight as the administrator of the DeSantis-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD).
“Gilzean has been a dedicated public servant to the State of Florida, most recently serving as Administrator of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District as the district navigated the transition from the former Reedy Creek Improvement District,” a press release from DeSantis read.
Career Outside of the CFTOD
Outside of his work at the CFTOD, Gilzean has previously served as the Chairman of the Florida Commission on Ethics and President and CEO of the Central Florida Urban League.
Gilzean came under fire after it came out that he was serving on the Florida Commission on Ethics and the CFTOD at the same time, which was in violation of state law. He would eventually resign from the ethics commission.
In his new role, Gilzean will head the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office as the state begins preparation for the 2024 presidential election. The role has been vacant since Bill Cowles’s retirement in January.
Before his work at the Central Florida Urban League, Gilzean was vice president at Step Up For Students, a scholarship-granting organization in Jacksonville.
He also served on the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Board of Trustees from 2013 until 2014 and was a member of the Pinellas County School Board in 2012. He served as regional field director for the Florida Department of Education from 2006 until 2009.
