Auli’i Cravalho Is Officially Returning For ‘Moana 2’!
Moana fans can breathe a sigh of relief; Auli’i Cravalho will be reprising her role as the titular heroine in the upcoming Moana 2.
The last time we heard, both Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson were in talks with Disney to reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively.

While reports initially reported that Johnson was close to signing onto the film, Cravalho’s involvement was in doubt.
Cravalho’s Return Was in Doubt
Unlike Johnson, Cravalho was not slated to return as Moana in Disney’s live-action remake of the animated film.

“I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific people’s cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representations to come. Mahalo,” Cravalho said.
Cravalho announced her return as Moana on Instagram, posting a video of herself in front of Disney Studios with Beyonce’s hit Texas Hold Em’ playing in the background. The captain read “We’re sailing WAY beyond the reef this November… ❤️🌀🐚 #Moana2”

‘Moana 2’ Was a Surprise Announcement
Bob Iger made the surprise announcement that Moana 2 would be released on November 27 of this year, ahead of Disney’s Q1 earnings call.

The sequel will be directed by Dave Derrick Jr., while the film’s music will be written by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’o, and Mark Mancie. Lin Manuel-Miranda, who wrote the songs for the first film, will not be returning.

Now that Cravalho has signed on to return, all eyes will surely turn to Johnson. Hopefully, we will get news that Maui is returning too soon.
