‘Big City Greens’ Creators Sign Overall Deal With Disney Branded Television
Chris and Shane Houghton, the creators of the Disney Channel animated series Big City Greens, have signed an overall deal with Disney Branded Television.
Under the new multi-year deal, the Houghtons will produce animated projects with Disney Television Animation studio and develop live-action projects with Disney Branded Television across all platforms.
The deal also reportedly includes the chance for the Houghtons to develop adult animation with 20th Television Animation.
‘Big City Greens’ Continues to Shine For Disney
Big City Greens has been a massive success for the Disney Channel. After debuting in June 2018, the series has aired nearly 100 episodes. The show “follows the offbeat adventures of 10-year-old Cricket Green (voiced by Chris Houghton), a mischievous and optimistic country boy who moved to the big city with his wildly out-of-place family.”
Five years after its debut, Big City Greens was the second most-watched kids animated series of 2023. The show has also delivered over 2 billion hours watched across linear and streaming since its premiere.
Outside of the series, ESPN recently created the NHL Big City Greens Classic, a live, animated NHL game broadcast. The special event is set to return for a second go this year.
Additionally, a Big City Greens movie is set to premiere this summer.
Work Outside of ‘Big City Greens’
In addition to their work on Big City Greens, Chris Houghton previously worked for Disney as a storybook artist on Gravity Falls and Wander Over Wander.
Shane, meanwhile, was an editor for Tattoo School. The duo also worked on the series Harvey Breaks together.
