Sean Gunn Gives a Disappointing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Update
One of the biggest questions looming over the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is what will happen with the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
While James Gunn has exited the franchise and will now lead the DC Universe going forward, the Guardians’ story could seemingly continue under a new director.
When we last saw the Guardians, the original team had gone their separate ways. Gamora now leads the Ravagers, Peter Quill returned to Earth, and Drax and Nebula are looking after the citizens of Nowhere.
Still, under Rocket’s leadership, a new-look Guardians consists of Groot, Adam Warlock, Cosmo, Kraglin, and Phyla.
Sean Gunn Gives ‘Guardians’ Update
Theoretically, then, we could see the Guardians of the Galaxy again.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Sean Gunn, who portrays Kraglin (and also just so happens to be James Gunn’s brother), revealed that he has no idea what is happening with the Guardians.
“I honestly have no idea. There’s always things going on in the kitchen at Marvel, where they’re kind of figuring out the near future and the far future. But if I told you what they’re doing with the Guardians, I’d be lying,” he said.
While Gunn didn’t outright shoot down the possibility of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, it doesn’t sound like plans for the film are in motion at this time.
Star-Lord Will Return
While we may not know what the future will hold for the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, we do know that Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill will return.
Based on the fact that the character is now stationed on Earth, it seems likely that a Star-Lord solo film will be a spin-off of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Still, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. was one of the few bright spots for Marvel in 2023. If possible, it seems likely that the studio would want to keep the franchise going.
