Jonathan Majors’s Sentencing Has Been Delayed Until April
The Jonathan Majors domestic assault case has once again been prolonged.
The actor was expected to receive his sentence today, a month after a jury found him guilty of harassing and assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
Following motions filed by his defense team to set aside the verdict, however, the sentencing date has been postponed to April 8th. Judge Michael Gaffey selected the new date to give prosecutors time to reply to the latest motion.
Majors did not attend Tuesday’s hearing in person, instead appearing via video. Based on the charges he was convicted of, the actor could face up to a year in jail.
Majors Was Fired By Marvel Last Year
While it is perhaps unlikely that the Loki star will be sentenced to jail time, the damage to his career has been done.
Just hours after a Manhattan jury found the actor guilty, Marvel Studios announced it was ending its relationship with him.
Majors had been set to be a dominant force in the MCU going forward, with his villainous Kang the Conqueror set to permeate the franchise. Following the actor’s dismissal, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was renamed simply Avengers 3.
The Actor Continues To Assert His Innocence
Following the verdict, Majors continued to assert his innocence. In an interview with Good Morning America, he admitted that he should not have been in the car with Jabbari but claimed he never assaulted her.
“I’m not in the car, none of this is happening. If I leave the relationship, none of this is happening. If I’m man enough or brave enough to say, ‘I want to see someone else’ or ‘I’m done now,’ I’m not in that car. We’re not here. I’m responsible for those things.”
“I was reckless with her heart, not with her body,” he continued. “My hands have never struck a woman, ever.”
