Learn the Secrets to Disney’s Amazing Food Photos!
Get ready Disney foodies and treat fans. Indulging in tasty Disney dishes is one of the best parts of a Disney vacation.
And if you are lucky enough to be visiting the Disneyland Resort right now, you have the chance to indulge during the Lunar New Year Celebration.
Disney cast member David Nguyen, is one of the top food photographers in the industry and has the amazing job of capturing these delicious eats.
Today, he is sharing tips and secrets that will make your food photos look amazing.
Meet David Nguyen
Nguyen has 15 years of Disney experience photographing food and chances are good that you have seen his photos.
David knows that photography basics are essential, but his first tip is looking for the unique story around the food.
Another tip? Knowing that stories and food have the power to connect people and evoke emotion.
David shares that a captivating image of a simple dish is more than just food. It has the potential to connect feelings and memories — especially at a celebration like Lunar New Year.
Holiday food photos evoke heartwarming and happy memories of family, friends, and celebrating:
Food is tied with a lot of memories. With Lunar New Year, you have traditional foods like steamed fish with sesame oil, white rice, and steamed vegetables that remind you of a family meal.
David’s earliest experiences revolve around capturing an ice cream sundae with a disposable camera as a young boy.
Today, his skills (and cameras) are more advanced. As a Disneyland Resort food & beverage optimization manager and photographer, David combines creative storytelling and authenticity to digitally represent Disney’s food offerings.
David likes that Disney is showing food as a destination, an attraction, and even a place that you need to experience. He helps bring these stories to life.
In addition to digitally capturing all the food content for this year’s Lunar New Year celebration, David and other cast members who are part of the Community of Pacific Islanders, Asians and Allies (COMPASS) Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) partnered with the Lunar New Year festival development team to ensure that the experience and foods were both culturally authentic and uniquely Disney.
David admits that it can be stressful having this work shared and viewed by so many people and publications, but acknowledges that there’s a great deal of gratification, too. Especially when it comes to the culinary experience during the Lunar New Year celebration.
“It’s the product that we made for the resort,”David proudly shares “We watched it from the first day. It was an idea all the way down to the final product. Everyone who walks by is like, ‘Wow, we did that. It finally came true.”
