South Carolina Man Arrested After Slapping Hostess at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
John Munro, 64, of South Carolina, was arrested and charged with battery following a November 19 incident at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to Citricos at the Grand Floridian in reference to a battery incident.
The Incident Happened at Citricos
As reported by Fox 35 Orlando, just before 7:30 p.m., a restaurant host at Citricos was checking in a family who had a reservation for three. The party, however, had arrived with four people.
One of the men, who was identified as Munro, was not dressed in accordance with Citricos’ dress code.
The restaurant’s website states that “guests are expected to dress accordingly in attire that respects the restaurant’s sophisticated and upscale aesthetic,” and it explicitly notes that swimwear isn’t allowed.
Munro, however, showed up wearing a tee shirt and swim shorts.
Here’s What Happened
The hostess reportedly told Munro that he wouldn’t be allowed to dine with the party, which Munro understood. However, he asked if he could wait with them until the party was seated. His request was granted.
According to deputies, when the hostess went to sit at the party a few minutes later, Munro followed them to their table.
“Please don’t allow him to sit with us, he is really drunk, underdressed, it’s my birthday and I’m embarrassed,” one of the women told the hostess, according to the affidavit.
When the hostess then told Munro he could not sit with the group, the belligerent man began to “repeatedly slap her forehead,” eventually hitting her three times while reading her name tag out loud.
After the birthday woman told Munro to leave, he apparently stopped and walked away.
The Hostess is Pressing Charges
The hostess had no injuries and declined medical treatment, however, she did wish to pursue charges.
Following the incident, deputies caught up with Munro, who they determined was intoxicated based on his “slurred speech, glossy red eyes, and constant repeating that he was going to sue Disney.”
Munro was transported to the Booking and Release Center and now faces criminal charges. According to the affidavit, Walt Disney World told deputies there was no surveillance in the area where the incident occurred.
