‘The Marvels’ Finally Gets a Disney+ Release Date
While The Marvels was not the box office success that Disney and Marvel hoped it would be, the film was still an important entry in the MCU canon.
A sequel to Captain Marvel, Mrs. Marvel, and WandaVision, the film saw Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) team up with Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) after their powers become intertwined.
A Box Office Bomb
Despite the fact that Captain Marvel managed to gross over $1 billion at the box office in 2019, The Marvels was the biggest bomb in MCU history. After opening to a paltry $47 million, the film finished with a domestic total of less than $100 million. It was the first MCU film to fail to reach that mark.
Perhaps in an attempt to recoup some of their losses on the film, Disney released The Marvels on digital platforms on January 16, where fans could rent or buy the movie.
As with recent Marvel releases, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., Disney chose to delay the film’s debut on Disney+.
‘The Marvels’ Gets a Disney+ Release Date
While those waiting for Disney+ had to wait a little longer, I have great news. The Marvels is set to finally land on the streaming platform on February 7.
While the film was clearly a box office disappointment, perhaps like Haunted Mansion and The Little Mermaid, the film will be able to deliver strong streaming numbers.
So, what do you think? Did you see The Marvels in theaters? Or were you waiting for a Disney+ release? Let us know below!
