Gillian Anderson Joins the Star-Studded ‘Tron: Ares’ Cast
Hot on the heels of the news that Tron: Ares has finally begun filming comes the news that two-time Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Gillian Anderson has joined the sci-fi film’s cast.
Andreson joins a star-studded cast that includes Jared Leto, Jodi Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, and Evan Peters.
‘Tron: Ares’
While we don’t know a ton of details about the upcoming film, Leto will star as Ares, an antagonist who emerges from the Grid and enters the real world.
When production on Tron 3 was shut down last year due to the Hollywood strikes, director Joachim Ronning revealed that the film would also tackle the subject of AI.
“Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on ‘Tron: Ares’ (a movie subsequently about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human),” Rønning wrote. “Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone.”
Anderson Has Been Busy
Anderson is perhaps best known for her roles in The Crown and Sex Education. Additionally, she has just finished work on Scoop. She will also star alongside Jason Isaacs in the upcoming adaptation of Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir The Salt Path.
We do not have a release date for Tron: Ares. Still, with filming now underway, the film could arrive in 2025 or 2026.
