‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is Back on Track — Filming Will Restart This Week
Now that Echo has officially run its course on Disney+, we are starting to get clarity into the future of Dardevil: Born Again.
The upcoming streaming series will reboot the Daredevil franchise that ran on Netflix from 2015 until 2018. Alongside Charlie Cox, who is set to reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the series will also see the return of John Bernthal’s Punisher and Vincent D’onofrio’s Kingpin.
While Daredevil: Born Again was originally envisioned as the MCU’s take on the popular hero, production on the show has undergone a series of delays.
The Series Has Been Overhauled
During the SAG-AFTRA strike, Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives reportedly viewed the nine completed episodes of the series and decided that a creative overhaul was needed.
Marvel subsequently parted ways with head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman, before bringing in Loki’s Justin Benson and Moon Knight’s Aaron Moorehead to helm the project.
The biggest change in the development of the series, however, came when Marvel decided to make the sure a continuation of the original Netflix series. This decision not only changed the tone of Daredevil: Born Again (the series will likely receive a TV-MA rating), but it also canonized all of the Netflix Defenders Saga series.
With a new creative team in place and a path forward laid out, Daredevil: Born Again is expected to resume filming this week.
Returning Heros and a Shorter Season
Not only are the wheels once again in motion but the Daredevil: Born Again team is also planning on bringing Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson back to reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.
Additionally, Daredevil fight coordinator Philip Sarva will return to choreograph the series’ stunts and second unit team.
Finally, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again is being trimmed down from the previously announced 18 episodes.
Instead, the new series may fall somewhere in the range of the original series 13 episodes or the 6 to 8 that Marvel’s Disney+ series have traditionally been comprised of.
While it may be a while before Daredevil: Born Again finally hits the small screen, it looks like things are finally heading in the right direction.
