Where Has The “Mission: SPACE” Sign Gone at EPCOT?
Houston, we have a problem. It would appear that a key part of the Mission: SPACE attraction has been taken away from EPCOT… presumably into the far reaches of the galaxy!
Where oh where in space might it have blasted off to? Keep reading cadets, and let’s investigate…
Five, four, three, two, one.
Okay. Just what is going on over here in World Discovery?
Well, if you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog over the past, well — year, almost — you may have noticed that there have been various comings and goings orbiting the exterior of this long-time EPCOT attraction.
Known for its futuristic flair and giant planet models visible from across the park, this attraction has one of those facades where, if one thing changes, everyone is going to notice it.
We’re talking about new construction cropping up, intriguing new floor displays being installed… and even a handy new snack kiosk for any post-expedition popcorn needs.
Perhaps most significantly, back in the summer, we were surprised to spot that the giant Earth globe had been removed from the ride’s cool exterior welcome sign. This left the “swooshy” “Mission: SPACE” rocket statue curving around a planet-less gap – still looking cool, albeit a bit amiss.
Five months have passed since then, and we’ve still not seen the globe back, which is why this next update has proved quite surprising…
Have you been able to figure it out from our photos?
Yep, another Mission: SPACE sign has also been removed this week!
We’re talking about the smaller sign, usually placed on the grassy island in front of the attraction area. For context, this is what the sign usually looks like.
At this point, the only remaining large-scale signage in the ride’s immediate vicinity are the Earth-less rocket marquee, and the “Space 220” orb for the neighboring restaurant.
We’re grateful for the giant Mars planet that still stands outside the pavilion, to make sure guests can still figure out which ride this is!
It is important to note that, at this time, Mission: SPACE is still open to guests as usual here at EPCOT. So, despite the updates evident from all these changes, we’re happy to say that your intergalactic missions can continue as normal for the time being!
As always, be sure to stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com for all the latest news and updates from EPCOT… and beyond!
