Searchlight Pictures Will Not Distribute ‘Magazine Dreams’
Just weeks after Jonathan Majors was convicted of assault and harassment, Disney’s Searchlight Pictures will no longer distribute his film Magazine Dreams.
Searchlight initially acquired the body-building drama a few weeks after it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year.
Magazine Dreams was directed by Elijah Bynum and starred Majors as amateur bodybuilder Killian Maddox. The film debuted to positive reviews, and Majors was hailed for his performance.
Searchlight Removed ‘Magazine Dreams’ From It’s Release Schedule
Following Majors’s March 25 arrest after a domestic assault incident involving his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, the future of Magazine Dreams became clouded.
The film was originally supposed to be released last December before Searchlight removed it from the release calendar last October. Now, the studio is washing its hands of the film altogether.
Searchlight no longer distributing Magazine Dreams is just the latest example of Disney distancing itself from the embattled actor.
Marvel Had Previously Severed Ties with Majors
Just hours after Majors was found guilty, Marvel Studios announced that the actor would no longer portray Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Unlike other entities, including The United States Army, MLB’s Texas Rangers, and even Majors’s own PR team, Marvel did not sever ties with the actor upon his March arrest.
In addition to Majors, Magazine Dreams starred Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris. The film was produced by Majors’s Tall Street Productions.
At this time, it is unclear which studio, if any, will release the film.
