With 2024 well underway, the excitement surrounding the debut of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship grows. Disney Treasure sets sail for the first time in late December, and the ship promises to explore the more adventurous side of Disney storytelling.
Moana Takes Center Stage at Walt Disney Theatre
Known widely for their incredible Broadway-style entertainment at sea, Disney Cruise Line plans to debut a new show, “Disney The Tale of Moana” aboard the Disney Treasure. Today, the cruise line shared a sneak peek of the remarkable staging and visual effects planned for the production.
From transforming the stage into an expansive sea during the pivotal “How Far I’ll Go” to embracing Pacific Island culture, the show’s creators continue to tweak the show’s unique details. Multiple languages, including Samoan, Tokelauan, and Tuvaluan, open the show in a new number guided by Gramma Tala, titled “An Innocent Warrior.”
One exciting new inclusion will be the song “Warrior Face,” a transformational song sung by Moana and Maui before entering the Realm of Monsters. Deleted from the 2016 animated film, previously “Warrior Face” only appeared in the “Moana Jr.” stage show.
Te Fiti Takes New Heights
For this production, Disney Cruise Line will debut the largest puppet ever brought to life on the seas thanks to Jeff Conover, Disney Live Entertainment creative director of puppetry and articulation.

Designing the towering Te Kā, according to the blog post, also involved the creative genius of Michael Curry, a master puppet designer who worked on the revolutionary designs featured in Broadway’s “The Lion King.” We cannot wait to see the volcanic Te Kā transform into the goddess Te Fiti onstage!
